Malala Yousafzai, the young Pakistani activist who works to empower girls and women through education, has collaborated with ethical accessories brand Toms to create a scarf, with all the proceeds going to the Malala Fund.

Celebrities – including Anna Faris, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Octavia Spencer – have all been pictured wearing the colourful polyester scarf (70cm x 30cm), which is made in the United States, and features a traditional Islamic pattern and signature Malala quote: “One child, one teacher, one book and one pen can change the world”.

The Toms brand is known first and foremost for its shoe initiative, which is sold on a “one for one” basis. For every pair of shoes bought through Toms’ shops, one pair is donated to developing communities. The brand also launched a sunglass initiative where part of the profit of each pair sold goes toward restoring someone’s sight.

Toms founder, Blake Mycoskie, told PeopleStyle: “I am so proud to be partnering with the Malala Fund, and the entire movement that was inspired by Malala.”

The scarf costs $48 (Dh176) and will soon be available at www.toms.com. It is designed to appeal to a wide audience, and is large enough to wear as a hijab.
