Limited-edition Ayrton Senna watch for Formula One fans
The Formula One Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi may not be until November, but fans can check out three F1-inspired watches recently released by Tag Heuer.
The timepieces pay tribute to Ayrton Senna, the legendary Brazilian driver, who shot to fame in the late 1980s for his audacious and daring driving style. Senna is recognised as one of the greatest drivers the world has seen, and Tag is paying homage to the man who broke the F1 rule book, and starred in its 1991 ad campaign: Don’t crack under pressure.
The limited-edition watches commemorate 30 years since Senna won his first Monaco Grand Prix title in 1987 (which he went on to win for seven consecutive years). He also won three world championship titles (in 1988, 1990 and 1991) and the Brazilian Grand Prix in his home country.
Of the three watches, the Carrera Heuer-01 Chronograph is the largest, with a 45mm case. In a distinctive red and black colour, it houses an Heuer-01 movement, and a skeleton dial.
The other two pieces are both 43mm in size, with the same red and black colouring, and all are available in the same S-shaped linked bracelet that Senna wore. In addition, all the watches are marked on the back of the case with Senna’s S symbol, picked out in red lacquer.
Hailed as a daring and exciting driver, Senna is nearly as famous today as he was during his lifetime. His career was tragically cut short in 1994, when he was killed in a high-speed crash while leading the San Marino Grand Prix in Italy.
