WHAT I TRIED Body Sculpting at the newly opened SensAsia Urban Spa at Emirates Golf Club.
WHAT I EXPECTED To hate every minute of it, because I was already an hour late before I eventually found it, and needed to get back to Abu Dhabi to take my daughter to the gym by 6pm. So I was in no mood to relax and be body sculpted at all.
WHAT HAPPENED My mood didn't improve as I marched through the grounds of the golf club towards the spa. "How good can a spa in a golf club be?" I grumbled under my breath. "What do golfers know about anything?" But as soon as I walked past the rather dreary gym entrance, I was in a different world.
The spa is really a slice of Asia in the middle of suburbia. All the staff I met, apart from the manager, come from glamorous places such as Bali. With the aromatic candles and muted lighting you really are transported to another, much more zen and pleasing place than the Sheikh Zayed Road. I started to relax as my therapist, Dwi from Indonesia, asked me to lie down and explained that I would be body-brushed, then have a mask applied to my thighs, followed by a stomach massage to ease water retention and any digestive problems and to detox me. There would also be a head massage as the mask on my thighs worked its magic, sculpting and slimming. She started the whole process with some reflexology on my feet that was pure heaven after my stressful day.
THE VERDICT I left the SensAsia spa a refreshed, renewed woman, promising to return so that I could experience the fresh ginger tea in the relaxation room after the treatment next time. My skin was incredibly soft for days afterwards, although I have to say my thighs didn't really look any different, but I am sure it is one of those things that can help enormously with cellulite if done regularly.
