Form, texture and colour unite for the season's hottest footwear trend. From desert boots to boat shoes, suede dreams are made of these.
Step into suede
During the recent spring/summer menswear shows, one material stood out on the catwalk: suede. Suede is no longer reserved for the winter - the likes of Paul Smith, Oliver Spencer and Gant Rugger have pushed for its return, whether in the form of classic brogues or casual boat shoes.
Suede kicks are the perfect everyday shoe, as they're not stiflingly formal or excessively laid-back. When you're not sure what to wear to an affair, don a pair of suedes and you'll neither be over or under dressed.
Gucci suede derbies (Dh680), for instance, are something you could pair with a suit, as well as run around in with khakis. The dark blue rubber soles are a neat touch, providing a pin-sharp focal point for your outfit.
Then there's suede chukka boots from Folk (Dh290). Remember when shoes were limited to black and brown? The magnificent robust orange hue is balanced with its sturdy suede texture, one that works well with dark denim or tailored chinos.
Fit for our summer weather are fringed suede loafers from Acne (Dh519) in soft olive green. Wear them with navy ensembles and white tones for a sophisticated show of colour.
When the weather really warms up at the weekend, ditch the socks and grab Lanvin suede boat shoes (Dh530), a nautical-inspired pair that is all about comfort. Pair them with light-toned shirts and shorts.
For days when you want to look extra snappy, a pair of (5) suede brogues from Paul Smith (Dh387) will do the trick. You can dress them up with navy trousers, paired with either a blazer for the office or a crisp shirt for dinners out.

The prince is right
On his recent trip to Jamaica, Prince Harry danced up a storm to the tune of Bob Marley in his blue suede shoes, named the Chuck, from the British retailer Russell & Bromley (Dh670 a pair). Later that day, he was photographed wearing a pair of dark brown suede desert boots, paired with a cream cotton suit. Don't hate, duplicate: H&M sells a similar pair for Dh79, Zara for Dh350 and Massimo Dutti for Dh469.
