A new triathlon is set to take place in the mountains of Hatta next month, and it promises to be one of the "most challenging" the UAE has to offer.

The course will feature a swim through Hatta Dam and a cycle through the roads of Generator Hill, while the runs will see participants take on some of Hatta's steepest inclines.

The event, organised by Middle East sports store Grit+Tonic, will be split into three levels of difficulty; super sprint, sprint, and Olympic. The super sprint option will see participants take on a 375m swim, a 2.7km run, a 10km cycle and finish with a 430m run. The sprint option involves a 2.7km run, 750m swim, 2.7km run, 20km cycle, and a final 430km run. And, for those really looking for a challenge, the Olympic course will involve a 2.7km run, a 1.5km swim, a 5.7km run, 300km bike and 430m run. Participants will be grouped according to their age.

The triathlon is set to take place on Friday, November 1, with the first race starting at 7.30am. Refreshments will be provided on the day, and all participants will receive a free Grit+Tonic t-shirt. There will also be a ceremony for the winners, where they will received medals.

“Not for the faint-hearted, this will be one of the toughest triathlons and will test you to your limits,” Grit+Tonic says. “With spectacular scenery and a nature-based course of dams, hills, mountains, tarred roads and wadis, it will be a triathlon to remember.”

The cost of entry starts at Dh200, and registration for the event closes on Wednesday, October 30. More information can be found at www.premieronline.com.
