Free healthy things to do this weekend

Find several free events around the Emirates that mark World Heart Day, which is Friday, and focus on health-related issues

1. King’s College Hospital in Jumeirah is hosting a series of free workshops including first aid, ideal for nannies; cancer awareness, with a focus on breast cancer as well as ovarian and prostate cancer; and new parenting 101, with tips on changing nappies and dealing with children’s allergies. Plus, there will be mini-workshops for kids including playground safety, bandage-a-bear and a tooth-brushing championship. Additionally, free heart checks will be offered from 9am to 11pm, noon to 2pm and 3pm to 5pm both days.

2. Majid Al Futtaim properties is hosting its annual Feel the Beat regional health-awareness campaign with complimentary heart-health testing for women, focusing on cardiovascular disease prevention and early detection. The event includes BMI testing, blood-pressure and blood-sugar checks as well as cholesterol testing, and continues for the next two weeks at Majid Al Futtaim shopping centres across the UAE.

3. Cycle for Health UAE is a new monthly initiative that kicks off this Saturday with a 1.9-km bike ride around the National Stadium and nearby roads at Zayed Sports City. Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi will conduct health screenings as part of its Love Your Heart campaign to mark World Health Day. There will also be exercise information sessions, a weekly learn-to-ride programme for children and adults, and heart-healthy cooking demonstrations. Bicycles and helmets will be available for complimentary use, and there will be bouncy castles, a healthy food truck and more.
