From the graffiti on the wall emerges a mammoth screen with a sound system to match. The emcee takes the mic for a spot before the DJ kicks in, while a bar-like set-up serves refreshing drinks. You may mistake this for a night club, except that, on July 12, the floor will be crowded with Technogym bikes as Hip Hop Karoke Dubai takes over a spinning class at Cadence Theory in DIFC.

The first-of-its-kind event involves live performances and a DJ set, with R&B and rap music to match the beat of your furiously pedalling legs. The event is free to attend – although spots are super-limited – and will have Virgin Radio’s Sheena Kay as the emcee and Hip Hop Karaoke Dubai’s DJ, 3G KID, on the decks. The 45-minute session will be conducted by cycling instructor Yuliana Dmytryshyn, who is also a part-time dancer and choreographer. The health bar will be manned by the team behind Essentially Juices.

The workout itself includes both high-impact spinning and on-bike hip-hop dancing. “Those in the saddle will also be able to participate in the live playlist, by pedalling faster to ‘win’ extra performances,” says Ali Momen, founder, Cadence Theory.

The event has only 25 spots, so book yours early (email info@cadencetheory.com or call 04 393 4039).
