Arnold Schwarzenegger is making waves online, and it's not only because of the release of his latest Terminator movie, Dark Fate, which hit UAE cinemas on October 31.
The actor and former governor of California posted a series of pictures of himself along with the Swedish climate-change activist Greta Thunberg on Monday, November 4, featuring the duo cycling as well as meeting up with his daughter, Christina Schwarzenegger, in California.
"It was fantastic to see my friend and one of my heroes [Greta Thunberg] last week and go on a bike ride around Santa Monica together and I was so pumped to introduce her to my daughter Christina. Keep inspiring, Greta!" the actor said on Instagram. The meeting comes only two days after Greta spent time with actor and fellow environmental activist Leonardo DiCaprio. They "made a commitment to support each other".
This is not the first time Schwarzenegger has voiced his support for the activist. The pair met earlier this year at the Austrian World Summit, an initiative of Schwarzenegger's non-profit environmental organisation #R20. "I have to admit I was star-struck when I met [Greta]," the actor said in an Instagram post during the event.
In September, Schwarzenegger showed his support for Greta by offering a Tesla Model 3 so she could travel electric through the United States and Canada.
Greta herself has been far more subtle about their recent encounter, simply posting a picture of herself on her Instagram profile with a gorgeous Texas backdrop.
“Since Friday afternoon, I’ve been travelling east through the beautiful southern states in the USA to get to the east coast and hopefully find a transport to COP25 in Madrid,” her post reads.
The COP25 recently changed its location from Santiago, Chile, to Madrid, Spain, leaving the activist a bit stranded. “It turns out I’ve travelled half around the world, the wrong way. Now I need to find a way to cross the Atlantic in November … If anyone could help me find transport I would be so grateful,” Thunberg tweeted on Friday, November 1.
The teen refuses to take flights because of their carbon footprint, which is why her highly publicised journey has included a mix of trains, an electric car and a zero-emission sailboat that took her from the UK to New York.
