WHAT I WANTED Mention the product Hot Cloth Cleanser and beauty devotees around the world will chant "Eve Lom". Born in the former Czechoslovakia and trained in Hollywood, Lom is regarded by many as the queen of cleansing. Natural and minimal ingredients have cemented her status in the skincare hall of fame. I was intrigued to see if her signature facial lived up to the hype.
WHAT HAPPENED Delighted to hear that you can now experience and buy Eve Lom products at Raffles Spa, I was eager to be pampered and have my flagging complexion boosted.
After a thorough cleansing with the legendary hot cloth (it lives up to its claims and removes the most stubborn make-up while exfoliating and toning the skin), a thick coating of warm paraffin wax, designed to open blocked pores, is liberally applied.
My Indonesian therapist, Wayan, performs a heavenly facial massage that helps to depuff eyes, cheeks and jowls. Wrapped up in cosy blankets and soothed by the smell of my eucalyptus face mask, I nod off for what seems to be hours. I awake to the rhythmical strokes of Wayan applying a serum and eye cream.
THE VERDICT For a serious cleansing and clarifying fix, the Eve Lom facial has to be an essential in every woman's beauty regime. The products are rich and creamy and feel like a real treat on the skin.
Though there are no miraculous transformations or results as good as I might achieve under the knife, my complexion does look immediately fresher with a rosy glow - as if I've had a year's worth of sleep and less sun. As a bonus, the Raffles Spa facilities are impressive, and relaxation in their elegant surroundings is guaranteed.
