Every second counts when racing cars enter the pits for a change of tyres or a mechanical tweak.

But what about when the alterations are on a far grander scale - such as an aircraft engine?

The engineering experts at Etihad Airways Technical are celebrating after breaking the world record for changing a Boeing 777 engine in the fastest time.

Teamwork and determination helped the experts complete the task in just 2 hours 13 minutes.

Watch the video of the process below:

This wasn't the first world record set by Etihad staff this year. In January, fleet planner Andrew Fisher flew around the world in the fastest time having officially begun the attempt from Shanghai.

"With the advent of new longer range and fuel-efficient aircraft over the years, airlines have been able to introduce non-stop long haul flights and add frequencies that facilitiated my attempt," he told us after breaking the record. "Planning the trip was a matter of identifying the most suitable qualifying antipodal city pairs and then finding the best routes, schedules and tightest possible connections within the right window of opportunity."
