Keeping time in two places makes wearing a watch while travelling twice as useful. Robert Carroll chooses three of the most luxurious.
Travel Essentials: Luxury dual-time watches
Piaget Emperador cushion watch
This watch has a cushion-shaped case which is made from 18-carat pink gold. It displays hours and minutes on the main face, seconds in one small dial and another time zone in the other small dial. It is an elegant and unobtrusive solution, simple and good looking. It has an 850P self-winding movement, which means it is powered by the motions of your wrist.
Available from Piaget, Wafi shopping mall, Dubai (www.wafi.com; 04 327 9000) for US$28,396 (Dh104,300).
Jaeger Reverso Grande GMT watch
This watch takes an interesting approach to dual time zones by having two separate dials - one on each side - which flip around on the base. It is an ingenious solution. One side is white and the other side is black. Reversing the dials is pleasing and novel. The watch is also very practical: it will last for eight days on a single wind and the stainless steel case is water-resistant.
Available from Jaeger-LeCoultre, Dubai Mall, Dubai (www.thedubaimall.com; 04 339 8769) for $14,193 (Dh52,130).
Saxonia dual-time watch
Adding another hand to a watch might sound bizarre, but this watch turns an appendage into a classic solution. The gold hands tell the current time while the blue hand tells the time (in hours) in the home country. There are two buttons on the side of the 18-carat gold case: one button advances the time by an hour, while the other puts it back by an hour, making it easy to change time zones.
Available from Al Manara Trading (02 627 2222), Al Saman Tower, on Hamdan Street in Abu Dhabi, and Ahmed Seddiqi and Sons, Mirdif City Centre, Dubai (www.seddiqi.com; 04 284 3100) for $24,000 (Dh88,152).
