Many of us try to escape the extreme heat during the summer, and Oman is often a quick, easy getaway. The Khareef season (July to September) is one of the most appealing times to visit the Sultanate and as the cool refreshing weather experienced there has just begun, we have rounded up four hotels worth staying in.

Al Baleed Antantara, Salalah

Perched between a private beach and a freshwater lagoon, this hotel has 136 rooms, villas and pool villas, and is a 15-minute drive from the airport. Situated beside the region’s Land of Frankincense Museum and boasting 250 metres of private beach, the resort offers guests a range of activities that allow you to make the most of the season – wadi bashing, hiking and 4x4 expeditions. Join the resort’s Salalah Guru and venture into the verdant mountains and watch the region come alive with wildlife. Special Khareef rates apply until September 15, with rooms starting from 168 Omani rials (Dh1,603) per night on a minimum two-night stay basis, including breakfast and a buffet or a la carte dinner for two. For more details, go to www.salalah.anantara.com.

Hilton Salalah Resort

Located 10 minutes by shuttle bus from the airport and downtown Salalah, this family-friendly 147-room hotel offers guests mountain and sea views. Choose from one of the three room categories or relax in a suite. After a busy day exploring the region’s wadis and wildlife, unwind at any one of the property’s four restaurants and cafes. The Frankincense Route and the gold souq are 16 kilometres down the road, while the Wadi Darbat nature site is 40 kilometres away. Rates at Hilton Salalah Resort start from 86 Omani rials (Dh821) per night. For more details, go to www3.hilton.com.

Juweira Boutique Hotel, Salalah

Designed by Egyptian architect Adel Mokhtar, this four-star hotel follows a classic oriental theme and offers guests a selection of recreational facilities including two large pools, a wellness centre and comfortable guest rooms. Nestled on the city’s promenade, the property is a 30-minute drive from the airport and 13 kilometres from the 19th century Taqah Castle. The hotel has a Khareef promotion where you can get a 55 per cent discount on the rate when you book and pay 21 days in advance. The offer is valid until September 15. For more details, go to www.juweirahotel.com.

Salalah Rotana Resort

This five-star waterfront resort is set on the shores of the Indian Ocean about 35 kilometres from Salalah International Airport. The 422-room property is set among lagoons, water features and man-made canals, making it an appealing location to spend a few days during the rainy season when temperatures fluctuate between 22°C and 27°C. There are nine room categories to choose from, with prices starting from 72.50 Omani rials (Dh692) per night room only. For more details, go to www.rotana.com.
