These are the healthiest cities to visit this year

A new study from Travel Supermarket ranks cities based on the number of parks, health food shops, spas, yoga studios and restaurants offering vegan options

If you are looking for a city break that’s good for your health, Paris is your best bet, according to a new study by the price comparison site Travel Supermarket.

The Healthiest Cities Index ranks the 100 most “wholesome” cities in the world, based on a range of factors, including the number of parks, health food shops, gyms, spas, yoga and pilates studios, and restaurants offering vegan options.

The final score was established by working out the density of each of these metrics per kilometre squared. The average number of hours of sunlight and the cost of a one-night stay were also determined to establish how attractive these destinations are to potential visitors.

Paris topped the list, largely due to its 894 spas, 1,305 restaurants offering vegan options, 155 health food shops and 139 green spaces. In second place was Chiang Mai in Thailand, which has 273 spas, 307 vegan-option restaurants and a substantial 2,512 average hours of sunlight per year. In third place was Barcelona, which is home to 510 spas and 1,368 restaurants offering vegan fare. Pattaya in Thailand and Vancouver, Canada rounded out the top five. Abu Dhabi came in at number 42, while Cairo and Riyadh also featured in the top 50.
