UAE residents who fancy a stay at one of the world’s top hotels don’t have to leave the country to treat themselves to a little luxury.

Raffles Dubai was recently listed among the world’s top hotels at Tripadvisor’s 2020 Travellers’ Choice Awards, which collates the highest-rated stays across its website from the past year.

The pyramid-shaped hotel, which is connected to Wafi Mall and is a 10-minute drive from Dubai International Airport, was 10th, beating properties like Lawton & Lauriston Court Hotel in the UK and Baros Maldives.

The luxury property is known for its unique structure that pays tribute to both ancient Egypt and its Singaporean roots. It has seven restaurants and lounges, a gym, spa and outdoor pool, and its rooms have private balconies with unforgettable views of the Dubai skyline.

Viroth’s Hotel in Siem Reap, Cambodia, came in first place while Hanoi La Siesta Hotel and Spa in Vietnam was second.

Rounding out the top 10 was Tulemar Bungalows & Villas in Costa Rica, Quinta Jardins do Lago in Portugal, The Omnia in Switzerland, The Upper House in Hong Kong, Valle D'incanto in Brazil, Grand Velas Los Cabos in Mexico and Constance Prince Maurice in Mauritius.

The list also included Chandys Windy Woods in Chithirapuram, India, in 17th place, Maxx Royal Kemer Resort in Turkey in 20th place and Royal Savoy Hotel and Villas in Egypt in 23rd place.

Winners were calculated based on the quality and quantity of reviews, opinions and ratings collected on Tripadvisor last year, before the coronavirus pandemic.

"This has been a tough year for our industry, but the global desire to go and explore, whether the destination is an hour away or across the world, remains strong," said Lindsay Nelson, chief experience and brand officer at Tripadvisor.
