If you’re starting to think about summer travel plans, then the new flight routes that have been announced could give you some inspiration.

Sharjah to Kannur

Air India Express has launched additional flights on its popular UAE to Kannur routes. The news follows complaints by passengers about high fares at the recently opened Indian airport.

As well as increasing the current flight load to Sharjah from four times a week to a daily service, the low-cost division of Air India will also add two more flights on its Abu Dhabi schedule.

The new services will launch on March 31 and there are also plans to add flights from Kannur to other GCC countries later in the year. At present, Gulf-based airlines, including Emirates, flydubai and Etihad Airways are not permitted to fly to the newly opened airport in Kerala.

Kannur is one of the first airports in Kerala’s northern region, making it a good pick for travellers keen on visiting Coorg, one of the country's best hill stations. Often referred to as the Scotland of India, the region is known for its misty forests and lush landscapes.

Sharjah to Serbia

Elsewhere, Sharjah-based Air Arabia announced plans to introduce flights to Belgrade. Launching on June 28, flights will depart from Sharjah International Airport to the Serbian capital four times a week.

The Balkan city has been busy shaking off its partying reputation and raising its profile as a place filled with amazing architecture and an emerging bohemian scene. It’s also a great jumping off point for the entire southeast corner of Europe.
