Passengers who are at risk of missing their connecting flights outbound from London’s Heathrow airport can rest a bit more easy thanks to Premium Transfer Drive, a scheme launched by British Airways this month.

If you’re travelling to Dubai from Manchester via Heathrow, for example, and the flight to London is delayed, you can request airline staff to sign you up for the service. This ensures that there’s an “airside” car waiting for you on the tarmac at Heathrow, which will take you directly to your next aircraft. The British Airways team will also send a message to the inbound aircraft, so the cabin crew can inform the passenger that a car will be waiting to transfer them.

While the service is currently available only to those who are transiting at Heathrow from a port of embarkation within the UK, it is applicable to most destination countries in the world, including to the UAE.

Carolina Martinoli, director of brand and customer experience at British Airways, said: “Missing a connection is one of the most stressful situations a customer can experience, so helping them through that journey and keeping them informed is critical. The premium transfer service will enable us to identify customers who are at risk of missing their onward flight, and proactively arrange to whisk them directly to their next flight.”
