Marriott design brand conceived by American hotelier Ian Schrager is the latest mark of exclusivity for the UAE capital, offering "high-octane glamour"
Abu Dhabi Edition hotel opens at Al Bateen Marina
The UAE capital has become the latest global city to boast an Edition hotel, an exclusive Marriott brand consisting of just 8 luxury boutique hotels offering "high-octane glamour". Conceived by the American hotelier Ian Schrager, other locations include London, New York, Shanghai and Miami Beach.
The Abu Dhabi Edition, located on the waterfront of the upscale new Al Bateen Marina area, is the group's first location in the Middle East and was supposed to open last year. Containing 198 rooms and 57 serviced residences, the property is currently in a soft launch phase with 68 rooms available from Dh1,028 per night including taxes. The full complement of rooms over four floors will launch on November 21. The spa and restaurants, including three fronted by Michelin-starred chef Tom Aitken, are already open.
A brand known primarily for its slick interior design, the Abu Dhabi Edition also has a notable exterior on the marina side, with a lattice-like shell to represent the lateen sails of traditional dhow boats, which were historically built in the area. Inside, there is a striking five-storey lobby and a lounge area incorporating a kinetic art installation. Guest rooms feature white marble bathrooms and oak floors.
The dining options include Market, a "healthy lifestyle restaurant" featuring organic coffee and raw juices, the Oak Room, a "traditional English oak-panelled restaurant" and the "Mediterranean-style" Alba Terrace, overlooking the marina. Annex, a three-storey mixed dining and bar setup with live DJs on the ground floor, offers further entertainment options.
The six-storey residences building is connected to the main hotel via a "sky bridge".
