The Emirates Airline Dubai Jazz Festival 2019 features international performers in a variety of genres. The event kicks off on Wednesday with a performance by Snow Patrol (Chasing Cars, Run), then on Thursday, British jazz-funk band Jamiroquai (Virtual Insanity, Cosmic Girl) take the stage. On Friday the series wraps with a performance by Alicia Keys (No One, Fallin’, Girl on Fire).

The Laughter Factory

Montreux Comedy Festival

Montreux Comedy Festival returns to Dubai with a variety of shows featuring top comedians from around the world delivering sharp and intellectual stand-up. Two French-language evenings include comedians from France and Switzerland, while the English-language show on Friday includes comedians from the UAE, South Africa, UK, Egypt and India. Walk for Arthritis

Storytelling show at Alliance Francaise Dubai

Neige et les arbres magiques (Snow and the Magic Trees) film screening

As part of the Cine Kids film screenings hosted by Alliance Francaise Dubai, children aged five to 10 are invited to a screening that aims to stimulate their French-language skills, improve listening comprehension and introduce them to French cinema. Neige et les arbres magiques (Snow and the Magic Trees) is a 2015 animated film that features four short stories themed around nature. Three stories are about trees and the last one is about snow and uses cut-paper animation to tell the story of a young boy who meets an Inuit family.

Lucrece Borgia screening

The Burj Khalifa presents its popular light show, which debuted on New Year’s Eve, nightly at 8pm through March. Zero Gravity hosts We Love Our Beach, a monthly environmental event in which staff members and volunteers, including divers, join for up to 90 minutes to clean the beach of plastic and rubbish. Visit the Rain Room at Sharjah Art Foundation, an immersive installation by Random International that lets you walk through a downpour of rain without getting wet. Combining art, technology and nature, the exhibition is 2,500 litres of self-cleaning, recycled water, which is controlled through a system of cameras and sensors that signal nozzles on the ceiling to stop within a two-metre radius, when it senses someone walking.

In the exhibition Tawafut at Showcase Gallery, and as part of the Year of Tolerance, mixed-media artist Jessica Watson-Thorp presents her explorations into the mysticism of Islam. International Women Photographers Association exhibition

See photographs by the 11 finalists of the 2019 International Women Photographers Association competition under the theme of fraternity as well as a free category. More than 600 amateur and professional female photographers from 82 countries submitted images for the award, which aims to redress gender imbalance in photography and promote women’s voices in the industry. The inaugural exhibition will be held in Dubai and will then travel to cities in Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

Wings of Mexico
