They call its skin-tightening and wrinkle-remover machine the “Beemer”.
Its reddish-coloured Near Infrared (NIR) laser warms up the cells in the dermo-layer and increases the cellular activity in your body, helping to produce collagen in your skin.
The result? An instant, non-invasive facelift, which celebrities such as Kirsten Dunst, Jessica Alba and Jennifer Love-Hewitt swear by and have publicly endorsed.
It sounded too good to be true, so I had to see this for myself.
I was in the safe hands of a lovely bio-aesthetic technician, Dorrie Emrick, who has moved to Abu Dhabi from Los Angeles to bring the art of anti-ageing to the emirate. Her colleague, Maliha Ashraf, the clinic manager, was also on hand.
I was asked to lie down and given goggles to protect my eyes from the laser’s powerful light.
A little tube of oxygen started blowing softly over my face to “feed” my cells. “It helps stimulate your skin so it becomes more radiant and youthful,” explained Ashraf.
Then they rubbed cold-pressed virgin olive oil into my skin to give it nourishment. Now it was time for the laser. Emrick said it would feel like an iron, but cold, and then a bit hot.
The mental image of an iron on my face did not sound very appealing. But there was no pain when the flat glassy surface of the laser touched my face. It felt like ice being massaged onto my skin, followed instantly by warm water.
This “ironing” of my face went on for about 15 minutes. It can also be done on the entire body, which takes around an hour and a half.
“This is the laser the celebs have right before an event or before they go on camera. You can walk in and out and the results are instant, and it’s not painful,” said Emrick.
When my treatment was done, I had a good, long look at my face.
I will admit, I looked fresher and my skin more plump, like I was five years younger.
The results last for about three weeks and they recommend repeating the procedure every three to four months. I would do it again.
