It's been a decade that has witnessed the election of US President Donald Trump, the spread of the #MeToo movement, and some of the most most star-studded celebrity nuptials of all time.

The years between 2010 and 2019 have seen some of Hollywood and Bollywood's most famous names tie the knot in lavish ceremonies, private affairs and far-flung destinations, with several royal weddings also taking place during the last 10 years.

As we prepare to see in 2020 later this week, we take a look back at some of the weddings that defined the decade we're leaving behind.

1. Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas

Arguably the honour of the biggest wedding of 2018, if not the past decade, goes to the Indian actress and American musician, who tied the knot in a lavish four-day celebration in Jodhpur last December. The Sky is Pink star and the Jealous crooner, who became engaged in July 2018, wed in a traditional Christian service, followed by a Hindu blessing, and also celebrated their union with a series of wedding receptions in India and the US. The pair, who honeymooned in Oman, revealed the big day was poignant for both families, with Chopra telling people the ceremony "melted my heart". "Being able to have two big weddings, in India, with our closest family and friends was unbelievably special," said Chopra.

2. Lana El Sahely and Ali Awada

The Lebanese style maven and influencer wed her businessman beau in an opulent ceremony in Beirut in September 2014. The couple, who welcomed their first child, son Zayd, last year, tied the knot at the city's Biel Hall, with the bride wearing a couture, crystal-speckled gown by Lebanon's Elie Saab.

Following their engagement in November 2017, the British royal and the American actress exchanged vows in May 2018 at St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle. Wearing a custom-made Givenchy gown, Markle became became the Duchess of Sussex upon her marriage, which was held with Queen Elizabeth II, Oprah Winfrey and George Clooney in attendance. The couple have since welcomed their first child, Archie Harrison, who will mark his first birthday on May 6, 2020.

4. Hailey Baldwin and Justin Bieber

The Canadian singer and American model wed not once, but twice, this decade. First becoming man and wife in 2018 in a private ceremony, following their July 2018 engagement, the couple held a decadent wedding in South Carolina in September 2019. The bride, the daughter of actor Stephen Baldwin, wore a custom dress designed by Off-White founder Virgil Abloh for the occasion, with her elaborate veil embroidered with the words "Till death do us part".

5. Sabine Ghanem and Joseph Getty

The Lebanese jewellery designer wed the oil heir in Rome in June 2015, in a ceremony attended by the likes of Princess Beatrice. Vows were exchanged at the Italian capital's Basilica of the Twelve Apostles, with the bride wearing a caped gown by Schiaparelli, emblazoned with gold sequinned suns. The couple has since welcomed daughter Gene and son Jupiter.

The Crown Prince of Dubai became a married man earlier this year, following a private ceremony held on May 15, 2019. Sheikh Hamdan's brothers, Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed and Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed, also wed on the same day, with a celebration to fete the royal nuptials held in June at Dubai World Trade Centre. The ceremony was attended by the father of the grooms, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai.

9. Kim Kardashian and Kanye West

The reality star and mogul sparked a series of wedding trends when she married the rapper and designer in May 2014. Saying "I do" in front of a grandiose flower wall at Florence's Forte di Belvedere, the bride wore a custom gown by Givenchy as Andrea Bocelli serenaded her down the aisle. The decadent celebrations also included bachelorette party in Paris and a rehearsal dinner at the French capital's Palace of Versailles.

10. Sonam Kapoor and Anand Ahuja

The Bollywood superstar and the entrepreneur were joined by the likes of Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan as they became husband and wife in May 2018. The newlyweds were joined by filmmaker Nadine Labaki, model Karolina Kurkova and former prime minister Saad Hariri on the big day, with performances from Nancy Ajram and Elissa.

The A-list couple, who welcomed twins Ella and Alexander in 2017, wed at the Aman Canal Grande luxury resort, with guests such as Matt Damon, Emily Blunt and Anna Wintour looking on. Alamuddin wore a custom lace wedding dress by Oscar de la Renta for the ceremony, the final bridal gown created by the designer, who died just a month later.

13. Rose Leslie and Kit Harington

They met on the set of Game of Thrones, but the British acting duo luckily had a happier big day than the show's infamous Red Wedding. The second-in-line to the British throne wed his university sweetheart in April 2011, with a televised ceremony at London's Westminster Abbey. Middleton wore a custom gown by Alexander McQueen for the royal ceremony, which was conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury. The highly anticipated big day was attended by members of the royal family, including Queen Elizabeth II, with the groom's brother, Prince Harry, acting as best man. The couple have since welcomed three children: Princes George and Louis, and Princess Charlotte.

15. Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth

The on-off couple, who met on the set of 2009's The Last Song, were first engaged in 2012, rekindling their relationship - and betrothal - in 2016 after a two-year-split. The decade wasn't defined by royal weddings from the UK alone; in July 2011, just a few months after Prince William and Kate became the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Monaco's heir to the throne also held a fairytale big day. Prince Albert married South African swimmer Wittstock, who competed at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, at the Palace of Monaco in a resplendent ceremony, attended by a number of European royals. Two of India's most famous families were united in March 2019 as Akash, son of India's richest man Mukesh Ambani, and Shloka, daughter of diamond mogul Russell Mehta, wed in Mumbai. The couple, whose ceremony took place at the Jio World Exhibition Centre, were joined by stars such as Aishwarya Rai, Priyanka Chopra and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair for the splendorous celebrations.

22. Rym Saidi and Wissam Breidy

The Tunisian model and the Lebanese television presenter headed to Milan to wed back in July 2017, before holding a second ceremony in Lebanon's Chateau Rweiss that September. For the latter celebration, Saidi sported a custom gown by Lebanese couturier Georges Hobeika, decorated with fabric flowers and a romantic hood.

23. Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel

Also tying the knot in Italy (quite the popular wedding destination of the decade) were the singer and actress, who held at intimate ceremony at Puglia's Borgo Egnazia resort. The two wed in October 2012, with The Sinner star Biel breaking with tradition and choosing a soft pink bridal gown by Giambattista Valli. Timberlake sang a self-penned song as his bride, with whom he shares son Silas, walked down the aisle.

24. Victoria Swarovski and Werner Muerz

When it comes to big weddings of the decade, few come larger than the crystal heiress's elaborate nuptials, held in Italy's Trieste in June 2017. The Austrian pop star wed her real estate investor beau in one of the world's priciest gowns, a show-stopping creation by Dubai designer Michael Cinco. Studded with around 500,000 Swarovski gems, the elegant dress was worth more than $1 million (Dh3.67 million), according to the Filipino-born couturier.

25. Gwyneth Paltrow and Brad Falchuk

The American Oscar winner and Goop founder wed the Glee co-creator in September 2018, in the backyard of her Hamptons home. Wearing a lace Valentino gown, before changing into a Stella McCartney jumpsuit, Paltrow revealed plenty of details about her big day on the Goop website, including the fact that her wedding dinner was cooked by chef Mario Carbone, and flowers from the event were later donated to local hospitals.
