Ras Al Khaimah is preparing to dazzle the world with a New Year's Eve fireworks spectacular, which it says will attempt to break two Guinness World Records.

According to tourism officials, "#RAKNYE2020 promises to be a mind-boggling feat – where pyrotechnics, fireworks and laser displays will create a dazzling experience".

It has not yet been announced which two records Ras Al Khaimah will be attempting to break on the night. The emirate's 2019 display broke two Guinness World Records, for the longest chain of fireworks and for the longest straight line of fireworks; the 2018 display set the record for the largest aerial firework shell.

This New Year's Eve, crowds will gather at three new locations along the RAK coast opposite Al Marjan Island, and the displays will be viewable from several vantage positions, from Al Marjan Island, along the coast to Al Hamra. Tickets for the event will go on sale in October.

The display will include pyro-drones (essentially drones that shoot out fireworks). These will count down to midnight and 2020, before a fireworks display fills the sky, including "special Japanese aerial shell fireworks".

There will be celebrity guests on the night, too, "including top performers from the Arab world" who will take the crowds into the New Year.

“We commenced work on the 2020 New Year’s Eve celebration right after the successful culmination of this year’s event," an official said. "Having raised the standards through enhanced features and welcomed visitors from far and wide in the past years, we are committed to delivering another innovative and never-before-seen spectacle for the 2020 New Year’s Eve.

“Our primary focus is to engage and entertain families, and we are adding several features to delight them, in addition to hosting a celebrity gala featuring top celebrities. With the celebration, we are further underlining the reputation of Ras Al Khaimah as the go-to destination for New Year’s Eve celebrations.”
