Ranveer Singh is his usual exuberant self at his haldi party ahead of his wedding with Deepika Padukone
The ceremony took place at Singh's Mumbai residence 10 days before the couple's Lake Como wedding
Last we heard, Ranveer Singh was at his bachelor bash in Goa. But on November 4, his stylist Nitasha Gaurav - the woman behind Singh's so-outrageous-they're-gorgeous outfits - put up a picture of him that looked like he was at the airport, on his way back to Mumbai. Singh and Gaurav's outfit of choice? A top-to-toe lilac Adidas hoodie and pants, and shoes a singular shade of aubergine.
Turns out, Singh came back to celebrate his haldi ceremony at his Mumbai residence, about 10 days before his wedding with Deepika Padukone, on November 14-15 in Lake Como, Italy. The ceremony involves smearing the groom's face and body with turmeric powder (often mixed with shea butter or coconut oil) so that he looks his best - glowing skin and all - on D-Day. Historically, this ritual may have performed because haldi (turmeric) is known for its medicinal, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, and relatives would give the couple their blessing by gently applying it on their skin.
These days, of course, it's more about friends dunking their hands in the gloopy paste and smearing it with gay abandon on the grroom- or bride-to-be. At his haldi party, Singh is spotted dressed in a for-once conventional white kurta, and clicking selfies in his balcony, cheeky grin, handlebar moustache and traces of haldi firmly in place.
As tradition dictates, his home is seen done up with strands of marigold flowers as well as little lanterns, although those could be for Diwali, the festival of lights, coming up on November 7.
The groom's haldi ceremony comes days after a puja at the bride's Bangalore home, where Deepika Padukone wore a simple but stunning Sabyasachi outfit.
