Instagram is adding a new feature that will allow users to report fake posts.

The new reporting tool will enable people to flag anything they deem to be fake or provide incorrect information, Instagram has said.

The update will be rolled out at the end of August, and will be used to train artificial intelligence in the hope that it will be able to automatically spot fake posts in the future.

Users will be able to flag fake posts by clicking the “Report” button, and selecting the “False Information” option. Currently users can only report something they deem to be inappropriate.

While selecting this option will not automatically remove the content from Instagram, it will be hidden from the "Explore" page and be reviewed.

The feature is the latest in a number of changes Instagram has made recently to try to improve the platform and protect its users.

Last month, it launched a trial to hide like count from users in certain countries, while earlier this year it announced a crackdown on fake followers.
