V8 Supercar invites other manufacturers to join the show

AUSTRALIA // The head of the V8 Supercar series, Tony Cochrane, has invited car manufactures to invest in teams and join the race series. The V8 show has been dominated solely by Ford and Holden for the past two decades, but both manufacturers have wound back their support due to the global economic crisis. According to Cochrane, only around a dozen of the 29-car grid receive full factory backing. The grid will be held to 29 race cars for the foreseeable future. "If another manufacturer wants to be involved in our championship, they will have to talk to and reach agreement with any of the existing Racing Entitlement Contract holders up and down pit lane," said Cochrane. "There will be no limit on the number of manufacturers [who might become involved]. If a manufacturer finds a REC holder who wants to take his product [and it complies with regulations], that's fine," Cochrane added.
