Love taking your four-wheel drive off the tarmac, but don’t quite have the motivation to trek out into the desert to do so? Then this weekend’s first Jeep Adventure Days has plenty of dusty thrills in store (and you don't even have to leave the city).

Billed as an “urban off-road experience”, the family-oriented event, which runs this Friday and Saturday on an expanse of rough ground in Dubai Festival City, is free and open to the public.

The only prerequisite to take part is that you must be a Jeep owner, from off-road beginners in standard factory models to expert drivers in modified non-road-legal vehicles.

Owners of anything other than the pioneering American four-by-four brand need not apply to drive on the specially set-up course, featuring a variety of obstacles including concrete pipes, boulders, mud baths and a five-metre bridge – although spectators of all car persuasions are welcome.

Across the two days, there are spots for 500 Jeep drivers, who will get a minimum of 30 minutes each on the trail, with marshals on hand to winch vehicles out of any particularly sticky spots.

For now, the event’s organisers, Trading Enterprises, expect the event to be a one-off, pending expected future construction on the site.

There will also be a first chance in the UAE to see the 2018 Wrangler, the latest incarnation of Jeep’s iconic off-roader.
