The votes are in for our end-of-year poll… but what did you like best?

Okay, our poll is closed and now we can reveal what the UAE's top three favourite cars unleashed in the country in  2019 were.

We're sure you applied your best cognitive efforts to this sticky issue and are keen to find out who nudged their way to the top.

You had a choice from outrageously expensive vehicles to those that were really rather reasonable, and, without revealing too much about the results, both got a look in.

You can remind yourself which cars made the final list in the gallery above, and quietly seethe if your choice didn't make it into one of the top spots.

Find out what we had to say about all the finalists here.

Without further ado, then, these are your final choices, in ascending order...

Voters clearly still have an eye for the exotic, as Rolls-Royce’s dreamily smooth Cullinan was the third choice. It’s a remarkable SUV, if only for the fact that you could probably head over a speed bump in it and not spill the soup you bought for lunch.

It will actually survive in an off-road environment too, which is certainly a first for a vehicle produced by the posh British brand. A great engineering achievement.

2. Toyota Rav4

The second favourite was the Toyota Rav4, another of the country’s favoured vehicles, and one that many might think of as a budget version of some rather more expensive SUVs. This car was properly fun to drive and the new, tougher appearance has given it an almost stoic appearance.

There's a good reason why these have been popular ever since they first appeared in the 1990s, and this latest version is worthy of a salute from its ancestors as it's the best of the lot.

1. Nissan Patrol

All the entrants had their fans, of course, but it’s no great surprise that the new Nissan Patrol is the one voted best.

It’s the UAE’s favourite SUV, and, after it had its global relaunch in Abu Dhabi in September, has probably been featured in more motoring reports across the Middle East than any other vehicle. When the covers came off, the assembled crowd were already salivating, and they hadn't even got behind the wheel yet.

This latest Patrol is being sold under the slogan ‘Conquer Everywhere’, and, well, that’s exactly what it’s done in our poll. Our only issue with the new model was one of exclusivity as, fuel consumption aside, it scored highly in almost all areas.

Good job too, really, as there are a lot of them on the roads already and that doesn't look likely to not be the case any time soon. We wouldn't want to think you were buying any old rubbish, after all.

What of 2020 though?

Well, there are plenty of new vehicles set to arrive in the UAE in that 366-day period, not least a series of electric and hybrid vehicles, including the BMW i4, the Cadillac Escalade ESV, and the Audi Sport EV.

On the petrol front, we’ll also be seeing the Lincoln Aviator, a vehicle likely to appeal to those already driving round in their Patrols, so the gloves are off already for next year’s vote.

May the battle commence.
