Pune unveils cheap SUV
PUNE // Premier Auto, an Indian car maker, is set to launch the Rio, a compact SUV in a joint venture with Zotye Auto, a Chinese manufacturer. Zotye will supply completely knocked down vehicle kits to be partnered with Premier's diesel power plant. The cars will be manufactured at Pune's factory, which has the capacity to produce 20,000 units per year. Premier hopes it will be India's cheapest SUV, with the base model priced at 500,000 Rupees (Dh39,482), making it 30 per cent cheaper than its nearest competitor in the compact SUV segment, the Mahindra Scorpio.
