New Lincoln Corsair arrives in the UAE with a whisper, not a roar

The new compact SUV from the US manufacturer is on a mission to keep your ears free from noise

An all-new Lincoln Corsair has just touched down in the UAE, and the marketing people are calling this one a "sanctuary for the senses".

It doesn’t take a genius, then, to conclude this compact SUV is all about quietness and sophistication. It conforms to what Lincoln refers to as its Quiet Flight DNA, presumably indicating a driving experience free from the howls and tyre squealing of your average muscle car.

The new Corsair has a two-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged engine, which will give 245 horsepower (fairly standard in its class) but the cabin is fitted with multiple sound dampening technologies to ensure a tranquil motoring experience (less standard in its class).

Interestingly, the calming atmosphere is further enhanced by a series of chimes, recorded by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, which replace standard electronic alerts to inform drivers of everything from an open fuel cap to an unbuckled seat belt.

Mind you, users can opt for a series of modes which include normal, conserve, excite, slippery and deep, indicating the person behind the wheel may be able to make things a little more choppy if he or she so desires.

There are two rows of seats inside and a dual-wall dashboard designed to keep things even quieter. The inner stylings Lincoln has become known for are also present, and, as standard, the new Corsair comes with what the company calls its Co-Pilot360 system, which includes a series of driver-assist features.

It’s here in the UAE now, and prices start at Dh183,645.
