Mayors create traffic misery

PARIS // Mayors of two Paris municipalities have created chaos in their attempts to fight traffic congestion. The mayor of Levallois-Perret made a section of the busy D909 route a one-way street to reduce traffic. However, this drove more traffic to neighbouring Clichy-la-Garenne so the mayor of this suburb made the D909 in his jurisdiction a one-way street as well. The 21,000 motorists who pass through each day have found it almost impossible to make their way between the two districts. The French central government plans to mediate but in the meantime many motorists ignore the one-way signs.
