i-Spy: Volkswagen Beetle
It started life as "the people's car", a cheap way to get Germans on the move, became a hippie must-have in the Sixties and has always been much loved for its cute, quirky looks and distinctive, spluttery engine note. These days, the relaunched Volkswagen Beetle is a tad pricier than the original - prices in the UAE start at Dh77,000 - but the basic idea for the Beetle's shape remains. VW has been making the new Beetle since 1994 and this latest incarnation appears to have more space inside, its curves are not quite as overt and the body is longer and lower. Whether this will broaden the Beetle's appeal, especially to a more masculine audience, remains to be seen. The engine is expected to be the same as the Jetta with a 2.0L, four-cylinder base engine with 115hp as well as a 2.5L five-cylinder, a 2.0L turbo, a 2.0L diesel and possibly a hybrid.
