I-Spy: BMW i3 caught out on the road

This is the production version of the BMW i3, caught undergoing testing in Munich. Also known as the MegaCity Vehicle, BMW plans to sell up to 30,000 units in its first full year of sales in 2014. Unveiling of the i3 production version, along with the i8 hybrid supercar, will take place next year. Both models will be built at the Leipzig plant and ride on the LifeDrive architecture, which has an aluminium chassis and a carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) passenger cell. Described by BMW as "futuristic premium mobility", the i3, which will produce 170hp via a rear-mounted electric motor, is expected to be priced at more than €40,000 (Dh193,000).
