Living in a box

From the country that brought you the Swiss Army Knife comes the swissRoomBox, a miniaturised modular system that fits in the back of an SUV, turning it into a fully equipped camper van. The unique system has different modules that turn into a shower, kitchen, bed and dining room in less than five minutes and without tools, according to the company. Also, if you change vehicles, you can transfer your mobile home with you. The swissRoomBox product has been developed by the Swiss company misC. Making a car a home

Australia, like the UAE, offers its inhabitants plenty of different in camping opportunities, and the camping company Mr Swagman offers a travelling home in which to enjoy it all. Whatever vehicle you own, Mr Swagman boasts they can adapt a roof-top tent to suit your needs. Built with a plywood base and using Australian canvas, the roof-top tent is about Dh12,000, which comes with a two-piece ladder, PVC cover, mattress and internal screen. For an additional Dh4,720 you can get a side room (as seen above) and a further Dh2,725 a rear awning. Available from www.mrswagman.com.au

Can you dig it? Yes you can

A shovel is a potentially life-saving tool if you are off-roading in softer sands, so it's a must-have addition to your camping equipment. This lightweight, compact spade from Gerber is approved by Nato and the US military and is ideal for digging you out of just about any situation. The shovel can be folded down to 24cm x 5.5cm x 15cm, weighs just more than one kilogram and boasts a serrated edge on one side. It's also ideal to take care of that bit of business that you want to keep far away from the campsite. Available from www.cabelas.com for Dh184.
