Green motoring just became competitive with the announcement of the 2019 Electric Vehicle Road Trip Middle East – and you can get involved.

Tickets for the event are on sale now, to join a road trip journeying through the UAE and Oman that sees participants competing against each other based on time and energy efficiency.
The video below gives you a taste of what to expect:

Starting from the World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi on January 17, the event will travel 1,700 kilometres through cities including Muscat, Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah and Khasab, to the eventual finishing line in Dubai a week later on January 24.

Road trippers will be taken to deliberately remote locations to prove the electric cars' practicality, while activities en route will include the world's longest zip line in RAK and a swimming race to Fujairah's Snoopy Island.

This year's event featured electric cars such as the Tesla Model S and X, as well as a regional debut from the Chevrolet Bolt EV.

"It’s an exciting time in the automotive industry due to so many new electric vehicles being launched worldwide, and many of those products arriving here in the GCC during 2019," says Ben Pullen, managing director at Global EVRT, the organisation behind the event. "We look forward to putting more of the latest models to the test and getting many more people behind the steering wheel."

Tickets, which are split into two legs (Abu Dhabi to Muscat from January 17 to 20; Muscat to Dubai from January 20 to 24), are available here.

Last year, The National took part in the EVRT Middle East, in its first year travelling through Oman as well as the UAE.
