Gastric upset is no excuse

TRELLEBORG // A 49-year-old woman who argued in a Swedish court that an acute bout of diarrhoea had caused her to break the speed limit, has been found guilty of speeding and ordered to pay a fine. The unnamed woman was caught by a police speed trap driving at 85 kilometres an hour in a 70 kph zone. The presiding judge in Trelleborg ruled that diarrhoea was not a sufficient medical reason for the defendant to be speeding. The judge said the speed limit should only be exceeded in cases of emergency, such as when someone's life is in danger, or if the driver was trying to prevent a crime.
