Classic Abu Dhabi police cars on display
The vehicles in one of the capital's malls show how much things have changed since the 1970s
The forces of law and order in both Abu Dhabi and Dubai are globally renowned for their supercar collections.
Police in the UAE capital, though, have put a couple of vehicles on display that they used in times past.
A first generation Range Rover and a Porsche 924 are on show in Marina Mall, and it's somehow fitting that these vintage affairs are occupying the space once taken up by a woolly mammoth skeleton.
Admittedly, the fact they're not contemporary is the only thing the patrol cars and the Siberian fossil have in common as the vehicles date back to the 1970s and the tusked behemoth to around 15,000 years earlier.
The Range Rover and Porsche are undoubtedly old school though – these days, the capital's officers favour the likes of the latest Nissan Patrols and Toyota Landcruisers, with the odd Golf GTI thrown in. The Dubai force has gone one step further and put an order in for the ground-breaking (possibly literally) Ghiath, nicknamed the Beast Patrol from W Motors.
The 1970s cars, complete with their distinctive historical livery, will be on display until July 21.
