The tearaway Huracan Evo has gone all soft on us...

The launch of a flashy sports car used to be subject to all the pomp and circumstance of a minor royal wedding but, in these days of social distancing due to Covid-19, manufacturers are sensibly taking a virtual route.

So it is that Lamborghini launched the new soft-top Huracan Evo Spyder via augmented reality on its official website, an open-top V10 ruffian that will certainly see some action on UAE roads, as well as the likes of the Yas Marina Circuit on track days.

Open-top cars are frequently a little more sluggish than their roofed counterparts, but Lamborghini claim that design enhancements to the Spyder optimise drag reduction and increase downforce, with improved lines around the cabin to ensure aerodynamic efficiency.

That’s a lot of words for saying it's still quite a lot faster than your electric scooter.

Few, though, will be surprised to hear this latest version mirrors its Italian stablemates in speed – the Spyder will get to 100kph in 3.5 seconds and reach 325kph at full whack, so, should you get behind the wheel of one, you might want to save full throttle for the track. That V10 will pump put 610 horsepower, too.

It has the usual smart Lamborghini interior, with the boy-racer dash featuring a riot of colourful dials, plus an 8.4-inch touchscreen that controls the car’s functions.

What about the price tag?

No firm word on price in the UAE yet, but the starting price for a baseline Spyder is $229,428 in the US, which is Dh843,000.

You’ll likely pay another 30 per cent on top of that for a top-of-the-line model. The first customers will get their hands on one these tearaways later this summer, so start saving now.
