Batmobile sale grinds to a halt
BIRMINGHAM // A replica of the original Batmobile that featured in the 1960s TV series has failed to meet its reserve price at a car auction in Birmingham, England. The car is owned by Mark Perkins, a collector who also owns the Mini used by the fictional character Mr Bean and an Aston Martin DB5 that featured in photographic stills for the 1960s James Bond film Goldfinger. Mr Perkins had placed a pre-auction reserve price of £40,000 (Dh 222,895) on the road-legal replica car, but withdrew it from sale when bids stalled at £38,000 (Dh 211,750). The owner says he now plans to exhibit the Batmobile at car shows through the UK.
