The Basel Watch Fair in Switzerland is where many of the world’s most incredible and unique timepieces are showcased every year.

Many of them are covered in diamonds, but none of them can match the sheer dazzle of the Mudan watch by Coronet, which was unveiled at the fair last week and is covered in a world-record-breaking 15,858 diamonds.

Confirmed by the Guinness World Book of Records, this flower-shaped timepiece has the most diamonds ever set into its surfaces, with a whopping total of 50.01 carats.

Shaped to look like a peony, which in China is considered the king of all flowers, the petals crafted from 18k gold encase a small dial, on which a hyper-realistic painting of a diamond has been created by artist Reena Ahluwalia.

“I feel honoured that my artwork has made it into the Guinness World Records. While growing up, I used to read about the Guinness World Records with pure amazement, so this feels very special to me.” Ahluwalia explained.

This is not the first world record for the maker Coronet, however, who also hold the title for world's most valuable guitar, featuring 1.6kg of gold and 400 carats of diamonds.

Of this latest creation, Aaron Shum, founder of Coronet explained, “this is the ninth time that Coronet has been honoured with a Guinness World Records title. We are proud to showcase our one-of-a-kind Mudan watch with artist Reena Ahulwalia’s masterpiece on the watch's dial.”

While no price has been revealed for the unique watch, it is fair to say the number of people who could afford it are rather few.
