Make fun of reality stars all you like, but people were paying attention when Kim Kardashian married her basketball pro husband Kris Humphries in a ceremony in Montecito, California Saturday night.
E!, which had exclusive rights to the event, has released the first look inside the swish affair on YouTube and will broadcast the entire affair later this autumn in a two-part special. According to The Hollywood Reporter, People magazine has paid US$1.5 million (Dh5.5m) for the photo rights, while two American news networks, CNN and CBS, sent reporters to cover the event. The British press paid less attention, although the Daily Mail featured photographs of weary guests – including a sleepy-looking Lindsay Lohan riding in a car with a more animated former Spice Girl Mel B – leaving in the early hours.
The bride wore a Vera Wang gown – one of three planned for the day – and a boho-style forehead diamond-encrusted headband. Her step-father, former Olympian Bruce Jenner, walked her down the aisle. The 440 guests, among them the actress Eva Longoria, the former boxer Sugar Ray Leonard and singer/actress Demi Lovato, wore black and white as per the bride's instructions. Kardashian's sisters, Kourtney and Khloe, served as bridesmaids. It was the second wedding for Kardashian, star of E!'s Keeping Up With the Kardashians. She was married to music producer Damon Thomas from 2000 to 2004.
Kardashian and her mother Kris are due to make their first trip to Dubai in October, to open the first Millions of Milkshakes store outside of the US.
