This week's item doesn't look like much, we admit, but then that's part of its appeal.
By day it's just a fairly anonymous cubed footstool - a handy spare seating option or something on which to rest your weary legs. Come evening time, however, and in three swift, simple moves, the cube can be unfolded to reveal a single bed and surprisingly comfortable mattress, which means that even in the smallest of studio apartments a visitor can be accommodated with ease.
As space-saving solutions go, that's pretty ingenious, but then multifunctionality is something BoConcept excels in. The Danish design firm's 2011 collection also includes a coffee table with concealed storage space that can be used as a dining table, and a luxurious two-in-one sofa that can be split in half, then reconnected to make an instant double bed.
One of the store's major selling points is that many of its products can be customised to the colour or finish of your choosing, so the cover for your stool can be made up from any one of its 80 fabrics or leathers. The only downside is that the footstool bed has proved such a hero product that it appears to be on many people's wish lists right now; the Abu Dhabi store informs us that this is one of its best-selling items, and since each one is made to order, there is a waiting list up to 12 weeks long.
