Taking inspiration from all over the globe, this week's finds require a bit of daring.
The Hot List: accessorise with bold colours
1 Pretty patchwork
This pink carpet from O'de Rose strikes a perfect balance between the traditional and the contemporary. Handmade in Turkey, its irregularly sized, worn-looking squares and rectangles have been roughly sewn together to create a vibrant patchwork of pretty pinks.

2 Indian inspired
Ikea has looked to Indian craft for the design of its new limited-edition True Blue range. Taking a striking shade of cobalt as its central theme, the collection includes occasional furniture, rugs, block printed fabrics, soft furnishings, lighting and accessories in complementing shades of blue, grey and white. While the motifs are inspired by traditional Indian craft, the overall look of the range has a definite Moorish feel, with low-level tables and large, Ottoman-style floor cushions, such as the fantastic Bladspinnare floor cushion.

3 Ready resource
Lightweight, super absorbent and fast drying, Turkish hammam towels (also called pestemals) are great for summer travels; they take up very little room and, since they're flat-woven cotton, can double as a scarf or sarong. They also look great in the bathroom or can be used as tablecloths, blankets and throws. As part of its summer sale, the online homeware boutique Idyll Home is offering 15 per cent off its lovely striped range.

4 Easy pickings
The Lilleby collection by the Swedish wallpaper brand Borastapeter is cute and colourful and made specifically for kids. There are plump pink cherries, hot-air balloons, heart shapes, polka dots and ballerinas, but it's this forest scene that we love the most.

5 Budget buys
We spotted quite a few stylish buys in the new summer collection at the British budget store Matalan this week. Highlights include the vintage-print kitchen linens and a range of outdoor accessories including cheerful striped floor cushions and hanging jam jar lanterns in a selection of vibrant shades. But our best buy is a collection of marine-themed melamine tableware: choose from the coral and white lobster design, or this teal and cream set with a crab motif. Great for indoor parties or picnics on those cooler days ahead.
