As an architect born in Jordan – a country known to be one big historical site – of Circassian origins, with parents who always kept objects belonging to their family and ancestors, I built in my heart a love, appreciation and respect for antiques.

I was always a collector, enjoying my precious belongings at home and wishing some day to show off my collection.

I moved to the UAE with my family around 15 years ago. We decided to buy a house and settle in Dubai, a place we proudly call home and that is playing a major role in promoting culture and art in the region. That pushed me to take the step and make my dream a reality. I started my own antique gallery.

Supported by my husband, two kids and close friends, I managed to intensify my regular trips around Europe and the Middle East to collect more items, so I had enough to put together something for antique lovers to see and share with me.

We have selected a collection to suit all of the tastes and budgets found in the UAE’s multinational society. We do not compete with Christie’s, but we pride ourselves on a collection that has been hand-picked, piece by piece, from different auction houses and flea markets in France, Italy, Belgium, Hungary, Switzerland, Turkey and Syria.

These items include everything from furniture to porcelain, silverware, chandeliers, pianos, mechanical music instruments, manuscripts and prints that vary from late 18th- and 19th-century Quran pages and work by master calligraphers, to -National Geographic magazines dating back to the 1940s and cigar magazines, posters and photographs signed by celebrities.

Vindemia started in 2006, and the dream did not stop there. We added under the same umbrella a contemporary art gallery called “Vindemia.art”, just next door in Murjan 5, Jumeirah Beach Residence.

We have also been exhibiting at the Kempinski Hotel at the Mall of the Emirates for three years. This gallery exhibits the artwork of young, talented, regional and international artists.

One month ago we opened yet another outlet on The Walk at JBR, which is dedicated to design and creativity. This is a gallery that exhibits and sells objets d’arts, and a range of items by young designers. It includes furniture, jewellery, home accessories, lighting, fashion and handbags in limited editions.

There are also works by young artists to help promote new ideas and encourage young blood in the area. The new place is called Fann-A--Porter. Fann is Arabic for art.

Our biggest selling items are small pieces of porcelain and silver that people purchase to give as special gifts to their loved ones on important occasions. The antique furniture also sells well as statement pieces that work as focal points in modern interiors.

We are working on another project at Vindemia Gallery for antiques, something related to art and fashion that is retro or even goes back to Victorian lines of design, but made in eco-friendly natural materials. We promote antiques as a green item and consider buying antiques as an investment in a green future.

Vindemia Gallery for Antiques and Collectables is located at Plaza level, Murjan 5, JBR. Vindemia.art is at the same location in JBR, but also exhibits at Kempinski Hotel Mall of The Emirates and The Social Hub at twofour54, Khalifa Park, Abu Dhabi. Fann-A-Porter is located on JBR Walk (Amwaj). For more information, visit www.vindemia-inc.com or call 04 427 0219
