American-Palestinian model Gigi Hadid is the latest famous face to wear SemSem – a fashion label founded by ex-Dubai resident Abeer Al Otaiba.
Al Otaiba, who is Egyptian, was a civil engineer in Dubai before she married her husband and moved to Washington DC. She launched SemSem soon after her daughter Samiya was born almost five years ago.
The designer is known to create matching outfits for mothers and daughters. "It's inspired by love, the love every mother has for her daughter," Al Otaiba told The National during a trip to Dubai last year.
On July 28, Hadid wore a pair of red high-waisted trousers from the label, in New York. She styled the bold flares with matching red flats and an oversized Star Wars T-shirt.
The brand has no shortage of celebrity friends. Last February, celebrity jeweller Lorraine Schwartz and actress Blake Lively hosted a lunch at Bergdorf Goodman in New York City, for SemSem, and others like Taylor Swift and Kourtney Kardashian, have also been spotted in the label's designs.
The trousers worn by Hadid are available online and cost Dh3,490.
