There’s no denying that if something has Gigi’s name on it, it's value increases automatically. The American-Palestinian model has been the brand ambassador for labels such as Tommy Hilfiger, Max Mara, Nike and Reebok, among others, but her latest collaboration is with a slightly more obscure label, Vogue Eyewear.
Part of the brand's #ShowYourVogue campaign, the collaboration presents the slightly wordy strapline, "Gigi Hadid for Vogue Eyewear Special Collection", and comprises a host of on-trend sunglass styles for the summer season. There are also a handful of non-tinted, optical glasses. But the thick, black, nerdy-chic look of past seasons has been replaced with smaller, thinner frames. Delicate oval shapes with gold, white, copper and tortoiseshell borders feature heavily in the collaboration, as do colourful, tinted versions in the same shapes. The tints are in rosy pink, aqua blue and fiery yellow shades, and are also available in more masculine, square-shaped lenses.
The collaboration is unmistakably retro-inspired, reflecting a shift in shapes that has been evident from the collections of other brands – such as Gucci, Saint Laurent and even Ray-Ban.
The final silhouette of note is the cat-eye – a shape that Hadid has worn a lot this month, particularly the stark red shades she has been sporting on Instagram lately. For her collection with Vogue Eyewear, this style is available in white, black, brown and clear frames.
The collection was unveiled on June 27, in New York City. To celebrate the occasion, Hadid wore a head-to-toe metallic outfit in millenial pink, by Polish label Kreist.
The Gigi Hadid for Vogue Eyewear Special Collection is now available at all major eyewear stores in the UAE. Prices start at Dh515.
