You can now have a 'selfieccino' in Dubai

Fancy a selfie sip? Two Dubai cafes now let you create your own image on your cappuccino

It took London by storm last year, and the "selfiecino" is now in Dubai.

With this next-level, high-tech latte art, you can have your own face - or any image - printed onto a coffee, and the Costa drive-thru on Al Wasl Road (near the corner of Umm Amar Road) is now home to a Ripple Machine. The technology can transfer any image onto the top of a coffee. You simply share a picture with the barista (via WhatsApp, etc), and they will upload it to the machine, which will 'paint' the image using coffee.

The added element is free of charge (although you'll have to pay for your coffee), and it takes just a few minutes to achieve.

If you like your coffee black, you're out of luck: it's the foamy milk on a cappuccino that is the perfect canvas for this coffee art.

Costa now has two Ripple machines in the UAE - one will be at the Al Wasl branch for the next few months, while the other will roam - it will be at RedFest DXB this weekend.

The "Instagrammable" concept shows how strong the trend of photographing food and drink before consuming it has become. Oh the things we use our evolving technology to achieve...

Here's a video that explains how the Ripple Maker works:

Or you can opt for a coffee stencil

Costa isn't the only "selfiecino" player in town (although it is the most high-tech). Down the road at Umm Suqeim's Tub of Butter you can order a custom stencil, handmade by an artist, which will then be used to replicate your image in cocoa powder on either a cappuccino, flat white or latte.

You pay a one-off fee of Dh31.50 (that includes VAT) for the stencil. You have to pay that in advance before the design is made, which takes about 24 hours. Once it's crafted, the stencil will be held at Tub of Butter for the barista to use whenever you fancy some next-level latte art.

Or, if you can't be bothered fronting up money 24 hours in advance, Tub of Butter have a bunch of celebrity stencils at hand that they will use to adorn your coffee, free of charge, any time.

These stencils include Marilyn Monroe, Mona Lisa, Angelina Jolie, Johnny Depp and Maradona.
