World without colour: would you enjoy an all-black-and-white meal?

Food collective Inked Dubai is known for its interactive and innovative dining concepts, which bring strangers together to share a meal that’s served in a unique way. For example, earlier this year, the team organised a dinner that had guests facing mirrors, instead of each other, which made for a slightly unnerving experience.

The collective is currently hosting Grey Area, a pop-up dinner for Dubai Design Week, where guests will experience a five-course meal in a beautifully set-up ambiance with custom-made tableware by design firm Tinkah, all of which are completely devoid of colour (watch video below).

From the crockery and cutlery to the linen and lighting, all objects have been rendered in black, white and grey in a bid to explore tastes, forms and textures “without the familiarity of colour contrast”.

The dishes, too, are monochromatic, and include monkfish carpaccio with hot garlic and truffle cream; poached cod with seawater jelly, citrus gel and vanilla cream; noodles with enoki mushrooms and spicy chicken broth; sardines in salt crust with potato creams; chicken risotto with burrata, pickled spring onions, and truffle and Parmesan cream; and dark chocolate brownie with sesame ice cream and Turkish candy floss.

The five-course meal is priced at Dh475 per person

It may sound delicious, but would the food taste the same for you without colour? To find out, book a spot at www.inked.ae. The experience costs Dh475 per person all-inclusive and runs until November 18.
