Started in the 1990s by three friends, who moved from Egypt to the United States, The Halal Guys is known for its straightforward falafel and gyro menu, tasty white and hot sauces and throngs of patrons. The eatery opened its 75th branch in London on Saturday, March 30, handing out dozens of free rolls and unlimited sauce to the city's foodies.
The Leicester Square location is one of the chain's more spacious outposts, with a large serving counter and indoor and outdoor seating. Despite this, the place was packed on opening day, with many choosing to enjoy their meal on the South Bank nearby.
In addition to falafel, and chicken and beef gyro, the menu includes sides such as hummus, fries and baba ghanoush and, for dessert, baklava, of which the blogger of Halal Food Diary expressed the desire to "buy in bulk".
The Halal Guys began their London stint with a social media competition, whereby everyone who posted their experience using the #platterthatmatters hashtag will be part of the chain's New York trip prize draw.
YouTube star Adam Saleh has come on board as the UK brand ambassador of the company, and was on hand for a meet and greet at the opening.
London and the US aside, The Halal Guys is present in the Philippines, Indonesia and South Korea.
