While a lot of people seem to think going gluten-free is synonymous with eating healthily, having an intolerance to the group of proteins can actually severely limit one’s eating habits. Luckily, an increasing number of restaurants catering to gluten-free diners is making things earlier. Here are six to add to your must-visit list.
Kobeya Kitchen, Dubai
Kobeya Kitchen, located in Dubai's Wasl Vita Mall, offers an entirely gluten-free menu. The Japanese cafe and retail store makes every effort to avoid gluten in their dishes. Expect appetisers such as panko-fried vegetables and Vietnamese spring rolls, and mains including chicken with coconut sauce and Asian rice noodles. Round off your meal with a matcha pudding or Japanese cheesecake.
Tawa Bakery, Abu Dhabi
Gluten is commonly found in grains such as wheat, rye, spelt and barley, so finding a gluten-free bakery is something of a rarity. Tawa Bakery in Abu Dhabi is up to the challenge, though. Their entirely gluten-free menu has more than 50 dishes, complemented by drinks. There’s a lot to tuck into – from freshly baked breads and sandwiches to pizzas and pastas.
Eat Well, Dubai
Launched by Dubai Herbal and Treatment Centre, this cafe’s meals are generally gluten and refined sugar-free, and they also have paleo, vegan and vegetarian options. Guests can find a mix of cuisines, with tacos and poke bowls making an appearance on the menu. What they all have in common, though, is a healthy twist.

Let’s face it, sometimes all we really crave is a slice of cheesy goodness. Pizza is a universal favourite and Freedom Pizza makes sure those with a gluten intolerance don’t have to go without their share of the pie. Customers can order gluten-free or cauliflower crusts and end dinner on a sweet note with a gluten-free brownie.
Life'n One, Dubai
Most health-conscious Dubai residents are familiar with this hidden gem. Life’n One is a gluten-free, dairy-free, GMO-free and soy-free restaurant in Jumeirah 1. Sounds about impossible, right? And, yet, you can enjoy dishes like ‘eggless omelettes’, vurgers and ‘I am not a cheese platter’ in its wholesome ambience. As a bonus, the restaurant also holds a number of workshops and classes.
The Cycle Bistro, Dubai
Tucked away in Motor City, Cycle Bistro caters to those on a paleo diet and doesn’t use sugar, dairy and, of course, gluten in its dishes. Menus are changed every three months, guaranteeing you get fresh, healthy chow, from quesadillas to vegan biryani.
