October marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month, that time of the year when individuals and institutions alike launch initiatives to raise awareness about and funds for one of the most common types of cancer. Several restaurants and cafes in the UAE have created limited-time dishes available for the month, known as Pinktober, with proceeds going to cancer detection and research.

Here are some treats to sample for a good cause.

Dessert from Couqley French Bistro

The JLT venue has partnered with Al Jalila Foundation and Brest Friends to create framboise-speculoos, a raspberry-yoghurt mousse on a bed of crushed Lotus biscuits (Dh52). All proceeds will be donated to Al Jalila Foundation to support breast cancer research. The dessert is available throughout the month of October.

The Pinktober bars are priced at Dh12.

Ice cream from Haagen-Dazs

The ice cream brand is supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month with two initiatives: 25 per cent from the purchase of any strawberry-flavoured treat from the Haagen-Dazs store – be it dine-in, takeaway or delivery – will be donated to Al Jalila Foundation for cancer research. The brand has also collaborated with Gargash Hospital so all female customers at its cafes in the UAE will receive free consultation and discount vouchers for treatment.
