Popular Japanese restaurant 99 Sushi is the latest addition to Downtown Dubai's dining scene.

The new outlet at the Address Hotel, Downtown opened its doors on Tuesday, September 1, with a menu featuring fresh and authentic Japanese cuisine.

Expect 99 Sushi’s signature dishes, including foie gras nigiri, spicy tuna tartar and its popular crispy tiger prawn tempura, as well as its famed blue fin tuna carpaccio.

The restaurant offers plush interiors and ornate gold fixtures, with intimate seating and the option to watch the chefs at work. The restaurant also boasts a large outdoor terrace offering views of the Burj Khalifa.

It was initially meant to open in March, but was pushed back due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“We were due to have the grand opening for 99 Sushi Bar, Dubai in March. However, due to Covid-19 we kept postponing the opening until the local authorities granted to re-open venues for good. Although, this is assuming that nothing will ever be as before, and with a chance of a second wave to now also think about, our former comforts might not come back again.

"So it is time to be brave, it is time to invest in people, and time to give new opportunities to rebuild the hospitality sector once again,” said Jaime Castaneda, general manager and company director of 99 Sushi Bar & Restaurant UAE.

Despite specialising in Japanese cuisine, 99 Sushi originally made a name for itself in Spain thanks to its award-winning Madrid restaurant.

It opened a branch at Abu Dhabi’s Galleria Mall on Al Maryah Island in 2017, which has proven popular with diners in the capital.
